Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you got to spend it with the ones you love. I was away from my husband this year but I got to celebrate with our four mini-valentine’s, so it was a good day. It has been a while since I have posted any cakes, but I was going through withdrawals from not baking anything, so I used this occasion to get some practice in.
We were supposed to go to Japan with my husband a few months ago but ran into some bumps in the road. So we have been staying with my in-laws until we can figure out what the Army’s plan is for us. This means that all of our stuff is in storage and I get to use a hand mixer until further notice for any baking I may want to do. Oh, how I miss my Kitchenaid and other cake stuff. It felt great to get back to baking in the kitchen though! I hope to get our things back soon so I can start getting licensed in our new state… wherever that may be. Lol. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the rest of your Winter season!
It has been a while since I have been able to do any cakes due to the move. I am starting to get out and volunteer a little more now that we are somewhat settled. We are still not in Japan, but we are loving our time in Utah with our family. For now I will just be doing volunteer work here, but opening for business may be a possibility depending on if the Army decides that we can go to Japan as originally planned, or if we need to stay here.
This is the first cake I have done for non-profit in Utah. A little boy named Denim is turning one so they decided to have a blue jean themed birthday! It was a lot of fun to make and I love that I still get to bake and give to the community!
I am in love with my sugar cookie recipe. I have been using the same one for years. Most of the time, I only make them during the holidays, but I will be adding them to my menu once our move is complete. To celebrate the beginning of the Fall season, here is a throwback to Thanksgiving, 2011. I made these pie cookies for a family dinner before I even dreamed of running my own bakery. These cookies are so soft and taste amazing! They were gone so fast and I even had family asking for the recipe. ♥️ That is the type of reaction that I love!

Sometimes when you are nice to your baker, she makes you free treats. ♥️
I am going to be very real here for a minute. I was having an off-day today. There was a smash cake that I just couldn’t get right for the life of me. It did not meet my standards at all and I was feeling so disappointed in myself. I sent the customer a picture, offered a refund, and was expecting a negative reaction. Instead, I was shown so much kindness by her. It was truly such a humbling experience and I appreciated her being SO understanding. Everyone has days where things just don’t go to plan, and today was definitely one of those days for me. Kindness goes such a long way, and that is why I felt the urge to make some homemade banana bread for this wonderful client.
I love how neutral this white scalloped smash cake is! It will be used for a “Where the Wild Things Are” photo shoot later today.
We actually don’t have the book in our house (I know… it’s a classic… how can we NOT have it?). I can’t wait to see how the phot shoot turns out!
I used this opportunity to pull out our Fall decor and do a fun photo session with this cake. Since it is so neutral, it is perfect for all seasons and occasions!
